Setting up a new house May 27, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — A Relevant Old Soul @ 2:10 pm

We are still busy setting up house.  The boxes are mostly gone with only a few remaining items that we can not seem to find a place for.  It has been stressful to say the least.  Then we are informed that we have now moved into 1 of the only 4 areas in all of the UK that does not offer internet.  After much searching and calling and figuring out, we now know we will be getting internet at home.  It is a little pricier than the usual but it is well worth it for us.

We have hung pictures on the wall and all the windows have curtains.  It is definitely starting to feel like home.  I will put some pics on here of  the house before we moved stuff in.

We have joined the local home school group.  L.I.F.E. (learning in a family environment).  We will be attending our first field trip this morning to the Post office.  Next week we will be going to another field trip to a really cool looking place.  Here is the link if you want to check it out. Well here are some pics of the house.  Also little snaps of my boys putting together a computer desk with daddy.

A day for fun May 5, 2009

This weekend we decided to come out from the boxes long enough to enjoy some fun.  2 times a year, they have a Bazaar on base.  It is the neatest thing.  Vendors from all across Europe come and set up booths of items for sale.  Hand made items a plenty, china, antiques, and many many more things.  Pottery from Poland, and cheese from Switzerland.  The boys really enjoyed themselves with face painting, tea cup riding, and Aaron even did one of those huge trampolines with the bungee cords.

I found great buys of hand made wooden bowls.  They were made from the wood taken out of Buckingham palace when it was restored in 2006.  John got some really neat stuff too.  We really had a great time escaping the madness of setting up house.  Here are some pics for you.

A day trip to Bury

Well I wanted to share our tripy St. Edmunds. Located a mere 15 minutes from us, I am constantly surprised by the vast amount of beauty and history that surrounds us. The pictures I will share can not possibly describe to you the beauty encompassed in these garden walls.  From perfectly manicured tulip patches to striped lawns all amid ruins of the original Abbey of 1530.  Each step is more breathtaking than the one before it.

I wonder often times what the Christians of yore would think of our corporate worship structures today.  In the name of “change” have we changed more than architecture and design.  When I look at the majesty and grandeur of these old buildings, the detailed brush strokes the intricate carvings, I wonder if our view of our God has somehow gotten smaller and less grand just as our buildings.

Today we worry more about comfortable seating, offering gymnasiums and multi functional buildings.  We want to entertain, appease, and keep happy the people.  Have we lost the grandness of God along with the Grandness of buildings.  Do we still view that Majestic, High and Lofty God from our comfy pews?  I look at these buildings and I see them reaching the skies, trying to touch the heavens.  Do we want to reach God that badly?

Well here are a couple of pics… There are not as many as I would like because my camera was not cooperating but enjoy.

Oh, for more history of this area, you can google Abbey St Edmunds in Bury St. Edmunds
